Healthy Pleasures auction

Online Bidding Opens on October 1 for PlaneTree Health Library’s Healthy Pleasures Online Auction

PlaneTree Health Library introduces a whole new way to show support for the Library: At 1pm October 1, the “doors” will open to Healthy Pleasures, an auction that takes place online at:

The auction will begin at 1 pm on October 1st and end at 9pm on October 15th. Anyone can participate by going to the auction website. With the software platform provided by BetterWorld, which focuses on serving non-profit organizations, and thanks to the generosity of donors such as Blue Waters Kayaking, Breathe Together Yoga, New Seasons Market, PlaneTree Health Library has assembled an exciting catalog of auction items to inspire people to bid.

Those items include: one month of unlimited yoga classes; a whale watching cruise; tickets to a special performance at the San Francisco Symphony; a four hour kayak rental; year-long family memberships to the San Francisco Botanical Garden or to Filoli Historic House & Garden; an expert-lead birding trip; season tickets to the San José Giants baseball games; jazz piano lessons; organic herb plants; deluxe yarns and other craft supplies - and more!

Money raised by the auction will go toward programming that provides free resources to the community for accurate and trustworthy health information and to help people advocate for their own healthcare. To stay focused on the needs of our communities, PlaneTree Health Library stays independent from for-profit healthcare companies - which means it relies on grass-roots support to keep its library collections up online and its programming active.

Everyone is welcome to browse, shop, or donate to show their support for PlaneTree Health Library at:

Donations are being accepted – simply log on to the site and click on the listed donation amounts at the bottom of the auction listings. And please also contribute by sharing the auction information with a friend!

PlaneTree Health Library Receives an Award to Create New Video Series

The Planetree Health Library received an award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine's Region 5 in support for our new video series, Diversity Dialogues. The oral histories recorded for this project will explore cultural barriers in physician-patient communication, voicing different communities' experiences with U.S. health care systems and practices.  Recorded as short videos, they will showcase the stories of people in Santa Clara County as they talk about ways they can advocate for equity and respect in their health care.

The purpose of NNLM's Collection Equity Outreach Award is to increase library collections of materials that amplify diverse voices on health / medical topics from underrepresented or marginalized communities. That goal dovetails with PlaneTree Health Library's mission to empower people to take better care of their own health, the health of their loved ones, and the health of their communities. Like all of the information in PlaneTree Health Library's online collections, videos in this series will be available for free.

Silicon Valley Connect Networking Meetings

It has been harder to connect these days, so we have convened a local group to share information about local resources, to spread the word and market each other’s efforts to the people in our organizations, and to encourage partnership in our communities. Non-profits, government, businesses, and educators in the Silicon Valley meet on Zoom once a month to share what they do and in turn build an online community. There have already been several connections and partnerships created because of this group. You never know what kinds of opportunities will happen when you are networking!

Please send email to to register for the next networking meeting and receive the Zoom link.
